AlwaysAmy 16.12.2008 21:31I'm just writing a quick note to you about this new (disturbing) bill that has been passed. It is going to destroy the businesses of anyone who makes items for children OR who's items are perceived to be for children. :( While I don't make items for children, my items could be considered for kids & thus this legislation is very frightening to many business owners.
PLEASE take a moment to read this email, click the link & vote on this item being put before Obama. It has the potential to kill off all artists & crafters who sell whimsical & fun items online. I appreciate your time & help in this matter. I think one of the best things about buying handmade is being able to effect change in the world around you & this is a good example of us doing just that.

One idea is titled: Save Handmade Toys From the CPSIA. I thought you might be interested in getting involved and recommend you check it out. You can read more and vote for the idea by clicking the following link:

The top 10 ideas are going to be presented to the Obama Administration on Inauguration Day and will be supported by a national lobbying campaign run by Change.org, MySpace, and more than a dozen leading nonprofits after the Inauguration. So each idea has a real chance at becoming policy.
CherryBlossomsDesign 19.12.2008 15:06Thanks Amy! I am also a seller on etsy and have already voted...but so glad you posted this here so other sellers may know as well!
razzamataz 29.01.2009 17:29There are already Federal and State laws in place concerning lead. These laws have been in effect for years. The only difference with the current one that they are trying to push for is the testing of the items.
Lead, in this country, was banned years ago. If Consumer Protection is so freaking worried about what comes into this country then let them revise what they are trying to do and require that ALL imports be tested for lead and other properties before permitted to enter the selling market.
I am rather getting tired of paying the price for other countries stupid moronic methods of manufacturing because these agencies cannot give the entire fact of what is going on. The testing that were done was not conclusive to anything. YET Consumer Protection laid all but ALL the facts on the table to Congress AGAIN. And of course, Congress, in their brilliant intelligence, did not bother to ask for a complete investigation from their end before doing anything.
Typical red tape! Consumer Protection and Congress will make it safe for everyone even IF they have to put everyone out of work or close down every business in this country. Better yet! Even if it kills all of us.
