As you collect Christmas cards throughout the holiday season, there are a number of fun and creative ways you can display your cards for all to enjoy.
Make a wreath: Buy a few plain evergreen wreaths and a pack of mini clothespins. As you receive each Christmas card, add it to the wreath and add to the display each time a new one comes in the mail. This is a sweet way to see all your family Christmas cards in one spot.
Make a garland: String a piece of one- to two-inch wide ribbon along the edge of your kitchen counter, the back of your couch, or the front of a bookshelf. Attach Christmas cards to the ribbon using paper clips, and watch your collection grow.
Make a centerpiece: Lay a few pieces of real or faux evergreen in the center of your coffee table or dining room table. Nestle a few ornaments into it, and add your Christmas cards as they arrive.
Make name cards: Watercolor Christmas cards can also be used as name cards at a formal holiday dinner. Simply lay one on each place setting and add a small piece of cardstock printed with the guest’s name.
Addressing Christmas cards to couples: If the couple shares a last name, you can address your Christmas card to “The Smiths” collectively. If they have different last names, address your card with each of their full names: John Smith and Jane Harris. Depending on your relationship, you can opt to include a more formal “Mr.” and “Mrs.” if you like.
Addressing Christmas cards to a family: When sending a Christmas card to a family, you can address the card with their last name and “family,” like this: The Smith Family. If you’re sending out a funny Christmas card, consider using a fun family nickname.
Addressing Christmas cards to an individual: Depending on your relationship with the lucky recipient, you can opt to include a formal title like “Mr.” or “Mrs.” or keep it casual and just use their first and last name.
Generally, people send Christmas cards between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Remember that the mail system gets busier the closer it is to Christmas. If you want to make sure your Christmas card arrives on time, send it earlier rather than later. Sending out your Christmas card a couple weeks before Christmas should ensure it arrives on time. Some handmade Christmas cards require hand-canceling at the post office due to their thickness, so you may want to allow a few extra days for this process.
