The leather workshop
We are a small bag manufacturer based in the Gänsmühle on the Nahe, a small river on the edge of the Hunsrück. Resource-saving working methods are important to us. We cover our energy needs with self-generated electricity from hydropower from the Gänsmühle. Whenever possible, we use “used” cardboard boxes for shipping, entirely in the spirit of sustainability.

Our leather
The choice of leather plays a big role; we give each bag its own character.
No other material is of such lasting high quality, individual, fragrant, supple and durable. Since leather is a natural product, there may be variations in color and structure. Our color palette can therefore be a guide for your color choice, but it does not represent a binding color.

Vegetable tannins
We only use leather from a small tannery that has been working with vegetable tanning agents (oak, chestnut, mimosa bark and quebrachwood) and natural fats for generations in the Black Forest. This leather does not contain heavy metals or formaldehyde or organic solvents.

coloring
The coloring is done with high-quality, heavy metal-free dye during the tanning process. The leather surface remains as it is and is not artificially covered. The uniqueness of the leather remains visible and tangible; it is “as if it had grown”, sometimes more grained or smoother. Vegetable-tanned leather is fragrant, extremely skin-friendly and, if cared for well, almost indestructible.

Care recommendation
The best care for our bags is frequent use! Through skin contact, fat gets on the leather - leather needs fat to stay supple, nothing else.
We recommend treating the bags with leather grease approximately once a year after a year and we strongly advise against using waterproofing sprays and synthetic care products.
Vegetable tanning gives the leather the best possible protection. Therefore, you do not need to treat it additionally before use. If you notice that the leather is no longer as supple as it was at the beginning, then it needs a simple leather grease (also saddle grease) https://www.etsy.com/de/listing /1109403330/leather grease-for-care-of-leather, this is rubbed in with a soft cloth and polished after a short exposure time.
